Parkend Village

POSTPONED until SUN SEPT 4th 2pm due to hot weather
seedingWe are giving nature a helping hand by sowing wildflower seed harvested from meadows at Flaxley. These meadows are naturally rich in the wildflowers once common in our area such as yarrow, bedstraws, knapweed, yellow rattle, birdsfoot trefoil and common spotted orchids.
As a group, we will be raking off the remains of the cut hay from the top 3/4 of the plot (above where the green hay has been spread) and making a compost pile of it on the weedy area closer to the wood edge. The plot and wildflower seed will then be roughly divided between volunteers who will create small 'seed beds' areas of more open ground (e.g. by hard raking) across their section before scattering seed and trampling it down to make contact with the ground.
All are welcome.
  • If you don't fancy raking but could help with scattering of seed please join us.
  • If you haven't walked on the fields before come up, say hello, admire the view and find out more about the meadows.
  • If you are able to bring a rake or two, a couple of garden canes or similar (to mark out an area), and a bucket to contain a portion of seed that would be great.
  • Heck, bring a chair and a picnic, spare veg to share and anything else which takes your fancy!
In the event of heavy rain we will need to cancel.
York Lodge Fields site is off Hughes Terrace, next to International Timber entrance and behind the Memorial Hall on Folly Rd.  Parking is on Crown Lane next to the sportsfield or on Folly Rd, just a very short walk from the site. These links should help to find it.
