Important plant information from a local resident
I have recently been made aware of the presence of Himalayan Balsam and Japanese Knotweed in this area. Both are present just after Hughes Terrace near the cycle route heading towards Cannop. The Japanese Knotweed siting has been reported to Forestry and I found some balsam on the bank of the brook in my garden.
I thought it prudent to make residents aware so that appropriate action can be taken.
The Wye Valley AONB have information on their website front page about both species - see WISP section
The balsam is easily pulled up but should not be put in with other garden waste. It can be left to dry out and if the stems are crushed shouldn’t re-root. The Knotweed will need to be reported to authorities to be dealt with, depending on where it is found.
